Timothy G. Hurlbut was born and raised in St. Albans, Vermont, graduating from Bellows Free Academy (BFA) in 1970, the University of Vermont in 1975 receiving a B.S. in Business Administration with an Accounting Major, the University of New Hampshire School of Law formerly known as Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1979 with a Juris Doctorate Degree. Subsequent to law school Tim worked in New York City for three (3) years at Chase Manhattan Bank and Chemical Bank in the areas of high net worth Estate Planning and Administration. Thereafter, moving back to St. Albans, Vermont, in 1983 and opening a general practice law firm under the tutelage of Probate Judge John Webster. Presently Tim practices in the areas of Estate Planning and Admistration. He is a shareholder of Hurlbut, Glitman & Associates P.C., where he practices Coroporate Law.
Upon returning to his hometown, he participated in politics and community activities for numerous years, including but not by way of limitation, as an Alderman for St. Albans City, Chair of the City Democratic Committee, a Delegate to numerous Vermont State Democrat Conventions and a board member of Vermont Citizens Advocacy, and Youth Diversion Program. Eventually, and for the last 30 years, concentrating his volunteer energies at Hard’Ack, Inc. as Legal Counsel, President, Vice President, and Trustee. Hard’Ack, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, 95 (approximate) acre recreational area located in St. Albans which hosts a free community lighted ski area with rope tow and snowmaking, snowboarding, skating rink, sliding area, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing.
Timothy G. Hurlbut has always attempted to balance his workaholic tendency, passion for Hard’Ack, Inc. with his family consisting of his daughter Desiree Hurlbut, son Kyle Taylor and wife Emily, and grandson Calvin.
Tim loves Franklin County, the woods, tractors, boats, and Lake Champlain, spending a good portion of his summer at his camp on Butler Island.
Major Life Experiences:
1) Being the Chairman of the Hard’Ack, Inc.* Merger with St. Albans City, negotiating and writing the Agreement and the Bylaws which substantially perpetuates the Hard’Ack Inc. Ski and Recreation Area for the use of the citizens of Franklin County with an emphasis on the children.
2) In his college years Tim hitch hiked over a five (5) month period from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula to St. Albans, Vermont.
3) Being accepted as a Counsel on Legal Education Opportunity (C.L.E.O.) Scholar in 1980 as an economic minority which enabled Tim to afford law school.
Tim is proud of the Hurlbut heritage in the Champlain Valley with the Hurlbut Cemetery being the oldest known white man’s cemetery in Franklin County. A large portion of Georgia Shore in St. Albans and Georgia was given to the Hurlbuts by their in-law, the Allen Boys, IRA and Ethan. The Hurlbuts were Ferry Captains on Lake Champlain hailing from Melvilles Landing in Georgia and to their landing in South Hero.
